We recommend annual checkups for all pets, so we can quickly detect and treat any health problems that have cropped up. If your pet has been diagnosed with a specific condition, we may recommend more frequent checkups. Either way, our team always loves to see you and your pet at your yearly exam.

What happens during my pet’s first vet visit?

During your initial visit, the veterinarian will carry out a complete exam of your pet. We might also suggest a urine or stool analysis and blood work to get a better picture of your pet’s health. Our staff will discuss anti-parasite treatments with you, as well as vaccination, spaying/neutering and microchipping. We will also give advice on diet, behaviour and other basic care (teeth brushing, grooming, nail trimming, etc.).

I have an indoor cat who seems perfectly healthy. Is a veterinary checkup really necessary?

Many cat owners ask the same question. However, cats are extremely adept at hiding their ailments and generally only show signs of physical discomfort if they are very sick. An annual checkup allows as to quickly detect and address health problems.

What situations require immediate veterinary care?

You should immediately consult a veterinarian in the following situations: your pet has an open wound, has ingested toxic food or products, has difficulty breathing, has fainted, has an eye injury, experiences a sudden loss of appetite or has not passed urine or stool for a significant period of time.

Bringing my pet to the vet is always an ordeal. What can I do to make it easier?

If your animal experiences car sickness, we can prescribe medication. For anxious animals, a sedative can help calm them down.

For pet owners who have difficulty getting their pet into the carrier, we recommend leaving the carrier door open somewhere your pet spends a lot of time. Slip in some treats, blankets or some of their favourite toys.
